Datacenter automation among growing trends for 2012
Jan 03, 2012

As cloud computing, virtualization and advanced networking solutions all become more popular, datacenter automation is emerging as a key need for handling increasingly fast-paced and complex IT environments. In a recent TechTarget report, Zeus Kerravala, principal analyst for ZK Research, explained that upcoming changes in the datacenter sector are making automation a more important technology for 2012.

Kerravala told the news source networking shifts and increased investments in private cloud infrastructure are creating an environment in which datacenter automation is becoming critical. Essentially, he said automation systems will become the next key network management tool.

As automation systems are employed to handle network management tasks, the solutions will increasingly be used to streamline change and configuration management, virtual resource provisioning and virtual server migration, Kerravala told the news source.

In a broad sense, Kerravala told TechTarget, automating network management will lead to the automation of a broad range of datacenter tasks.

Cloud computing and virtualization are at the core of the datacenter automation movement. The two technologies increase the pace of change in IT, make network upgrades essential and create an environment where new servers are needed at a breakneck pace.
