For the past few years, cloud computing has been expanding its hold on businesses primarily through basic applications and infrastructure services. As the technology matures, it is increasingly being used for more sophisticated solutions, making datacenter automation a key technology to enabling service level management and meeting the performance needs of advanced cloud services, according to a recent InformationWeek Reports study.
According to the survey, which found fewer organizations are planning to invest in basic Infrastructure-as-a-Service solutions in the coming year, while more are moving toward Platform-as-a-Service and Software-as-a-Service.
InformationWeek said this trend indicates that many companies have settled into using the cloud for basic infrastructure functions, such as storage, and are now embracing more advanced forms of the technology. This means that cloud vendors will become more dependent on datacenter automation and other solutions that help them meet the demands created by sophisticated cloud systems.
Datacenter automation is integral to delivering advanced cloud applications because it enables service level management functions that ensure vendors are able to maintain SLAs more efficiently. This is absolutely key when delivering critical services to clients in a diverse range of locations.
