Datacenter automation is already necessary to handle the pace created by cloud computing and virtualization in many environments. However, the next year should see more operators investing in storage virtualization solutions, adding more complexity to the datacenter, Computerworld reported.
According to the news source, convergence between traditional server and storage infrastructure is on the horizon because virtualization allows increased compatibility between the two usually separate environments.
The report said datacenter operators can now attach a storage hypervisor to a traditional server hypervisor, allow the two to function, essentially, as a single entity. This is leading to converged infrastructure, improving efficiency, but creating new management challenges.
While virtualizing storage architectures can be a major challenge for businesses, the benefits are considerable. Data consumption and creation rates are rising quickly, creating an environment in which businesses require more advanced storage options to meet operational needs.
Datacenter automation can be a key response to this trend. As storage and server hypervisors become linked, virtual machine provisioning could become even more challenging, but the pace will not slow down. This makes sophisticated automation solutions that can manage new server deployments a critical consideration for datacenter operators.
