Changing healthcare IT landscape making automation key
Jan 17, 2012

Medical providers around the country are still scrambling to respond to changing standards, new technological initiatives and shifting regulatory guidelines. As a result, 2012 will likely be another year of change in the sector. According to a recent  HealthcareITNews report, the year's developments will center around the electronic health record market.

By the end of 2012, the EHR segment will have seen so many investments that there will not be many more providers left to buy into new solutions. As a result, the news source said the sector will plateau during the coming year, with more healthcare companies working to optimize EHRs instead of buy new ones.

This move toward optimization will be clear in terms of applications that help make EHRs work. During 2012, more legacy developers will begin focusing on mobile solutions, converting traditional software systems into applications that can be readily deployed on smartphones and tablets.

Much of this change hinges on the datacenter, as the underlying infrastructure supporting EHRs and applications will need to shift in light of changing conditions. Datacenter automation could prove key in light of the market's trajectory, as data sharing and efficient application deployment is dependent on well-maintained datacenter infrastructure.
